Taxodium distichum var. mucronatum

Taxodium distichumvar.mucronatum (Ten.) A. Henry

Family: Taxodiaceae Common Name: Montezuma bald cypress

A tree species native to Mexico and southwestern Texas, capable of surpassing 30 m in height. It is an evergreen tree but tends to become deciduous in areas with harsh climates. The Montezuma Cypress is highly valued as an ornamental plant for its rapid growth and the beauty of its crown. Its wood, light and easily workable, is used in carpentry and various construction projects. The word Taxodium derives from the Greek words "taxos," meaning yew, and "-eidos," meaning “-like”, referring to the resemblance of the Montezuma cypress leaves to those of the yew tree.
