10. Gymnosperm Area

This area brings together representative specimens of gymnosperms, i.e., all the non-angiospermous groups into which currently living seed plants are divided. The cycads are represented in this sector by some specimens of Cycas revoluta and species belonging to the genera Ceratozamia, Macrozamia, Encephalartos, and Dioon. In addition to a specimen of Ginkgo biloba and representatives of various species of the genus Ephedra, this area also features numerous specimens of true conifers. The latter constitute the largest group within gymnosperms, represented here by several genera, including Agathis, Araucaria, Cedrus, Cunninghamia, Cupressus, Pinus, Podocarpus, and Taxus. We also mention the presence of Cupressus dupreziana (Sahara cypress), Pinus heldreichii subsp. leucodermis (Bosnian pine), and Abies nebrodensis (Nebrodi fir), which are endangered species, as well as Wollemia nobilis (Wollemi pine), a true living fossil, Sequoia sempervirens (California redwood), and Taxodium huegelii (Montezuma cypress).
