14. The Desert garden

In preparing this area, the needs of succulent plants have been respected. These plants require a dry environment, abundant sunlight, and high temperatures. Therefore, this section has been created on a south-facing slope, ensuring exposure to sunlight throughout the day. Additionally, the majority of the plants are arranged in interconnected sandy soil-filled containers. The nature of the substrate, united to the slope of the area, ensures effective drainage and prevents waterlogging from rainwater. Finally, less hardy plants are covered with synthetic material enclosures in winter to protect them from rain.

The plants present in this area, primarily originating from America and Africa, display typical adaptations to arid and semi-desert environments (e.g., succulence and prickles). A small section of this area is dedicated to succulent species found in Italy.
